Go Green! Three Eco-Friendly Brands Embracing Earth Day Every Day Like It’s Their Full-Time Job

by Julia Higgins

In recent years, we’ve seen words such as ‘sustainability’ and ‘eco-friendly’ slapped onto almost every product label possible– especially in the consumer shopping space. But what does it mean to be a truly sustainable brand?

As Earth Day approaches, the global call for environmental impact resonates louder than ever before, with 50% of consumers saying sustainability is one of their top four key purchase criteria. But what brands are going beyond just the green buzzwords?

To celebrate Mother Nature, we’re breaking down my top three favorite eco-friendly brands that just get it when it comes to making every day Earth Day.

  • Esty: When it comes to gift giving – no one does it better than Etsy. I absolutely love the small touches an Etsy shop brings from unique finds to customizable merch – there truly is something for everyone. In the past few years, the DIY site has found ways to help its shoppers (and sellers) practice more ethical shopping. Etsy is the first major shopping site to offset 100% of carbon emissions from shipping and packaging of every delivery – which means you can get the perfect gift and still help our Earth. Earlier this year, the brand also created sustainability attributes which allows sellers to indicate if their items are made from environmentally conscious materials or are designed to be reusable – talk about conscious-minded shopping!
  • Patagonia: Known for its stylish, comfortable, outdoor gear, you can find me rocking a Patagonia quarter zip almost weekly. From social responsibility programs to robust environmental and animal welfare responsibility, Patagonia’s transparency to consumers is just one of the reasons it’s beloved by savvy, sustainability-minded shoppers everywhere. Their ‘nothing goes to waste’ motto has helped them set the bar high when it comes to sustainable fashion – not to mention their clothes are built to last forever, and they offer a Worn Wear program to buy used or trade in! With fast fashion producing an obscene amount of waste, it’s no wonder Patagonia’s entire website is dedicated to how they are reducing their carbon footprint, and how consumers can get involved.
  • Fenty Beauty: Makeup mavens and music lovers alike all love Rihanna. It’s impossible not to – from her unapologetic authenticity with her Fenty Beauty line to chart-topping hits, she continues to be at the top of her game. Not only did Fenty Beauty shatter the industry when it set a new standard for representation and diversity in beauty, but it continues to find ways to innovate in the not-so-eco-friendly makeup world. From eliminating boxes to creating a great refill makeup system, Rihanna and her team have embraced an earth-conscious approach to makeup – and did I mention I can’t live without my Fenty Beauty lip gloss?

This Earth Day, and every day, let’s remember that caring for our planet should be a full-time gig! Happy Earth Day!
